4 month baptism photos

Jacob took his 4 month photos in early November. He wore the elegant baptism outfit his padrinos (godparents) brought him from Mexico. Size 12 months fit him just right except for the top button, which was just a little bit too tight at his neck. I like to call the first pose 'baby pope' or el bebe papa:

Just after these photos were taken, he fell asleep sitting down during the photo shoot! He got a bit fussy so we gave him the pacifier.

Jacob's mommy was baptised at 3 months. Here are some photos of Michelle:

Routine

It's been about 6 weeks since Michelle returned to work. Jacob is doing well with his daily routine. The late night routine continues to evolve as we reduce the number of nightly feedings. First we eliminated the midnight meal, per doctor's instructions at two months. Then the evening meal was moved back to around 9 p.m. and Jacob was going about 7 hours before waking for a meal. I thought we were doing pretty well, but at Jacob's 4 month doctor visit the doctor re-iterated that Jacob doesn't need to eat at night. Based on his age and weight, Jacob should be able to go about 12 hours without a meal! So, the past several days we've been having an evening meal around 6 p.m., then a bath, then some relaxing time before going to bed. That worked the first time, but the last few nights he's asking for another meal around 7:30 p.m. Maybe he knows it's the final meal of the day. Other than the first night when he awoke around 2 a.m., Jacob has been waking around 5 a.m. for a meal and diaper change.

Weekdays I wake Jacob up again around 6:50 a.m., change his diaper and feed him for about 10 minutes (before he falls asleep again). It's about 2.5 oz, so he gets a little snack. Manuel grabs the bottles, loads up Jacob in his car and they head to Valero.
We've had a few cold mornings - Jacob puts on his hat and keeps warm in his blanket.
Manuel carries Jacob off in the morning.

At the Valero Family Center, Jacob has 7 boys and 1 girl in his room. They made hand prints last month and have them outside the room:
Jacob's room is AKA the 'Man Cave'.

Jacob enjoys hearing Spanish from two of his caretakers, one from Mexico City and the other from Chile.
Jacob is with Isabella and Omkar, the oldest kid in his class at 13 months old.

Manuel takes a lunch break to visit with Jacob and will feed and/or play with him. Then in the evening, Manuel brings Jacob home. In the short 15 minute drive, Jacob always falls asleep. We all arrive home around 6 p.m. Sometimes Jacob is still passed out and we lay him down for a few minutes until he wakes up.
Jacob is ready to eat!
Some evening play time with mommy.
Singing with daddy in the evening.

Then Jacob goes to bed, mommy showers, daddy prepares the bottles, and we all sleep. Then we do it again...

Weekends are of course the most fun because we get to hang out together all day! We like to stay home, take naps, play, and relax.

Jacob is 4 months old!

Jacob is already 4 months old! He visited the pediatrician today for shots and a check-up, and everything looks good. He's 18.6 lbs and 25.5" long, which puts him at 93% and 58% compared to the average 4 month old. The doctor said Jacob's weight is "off the charts", but he's happy that I'm continuing to breastfeed. My goal is 6 months, and I'm almost there.
Jacob loves the colorful rooms at the Dr's office.
Jacob holds his head up high when getting his back washed.
Jacob keeps chomping on his hands, so I tried a teether today and he like it. Although he hasn't figured out how to hold it yet, but I'm sure that will happen soon enough. He tries to pull Manuel and my hands into his mouth, but his aim isn't so good yet.
Jacob was a good pumpkin on Halloween. He let mommy enjoy a shopping spree at La Cantera (upscale outdoor shopping mall near my house) - he napped for 2 hours while daddy pushed him around.

Jacob's Baptism

Jacob was baptised this past Saturday, 10/24, at St. Alphonsus Church by his great Uncle (Friar) Arturo and his great Uncle (deacon) Joe. The Ocampo family has a long history with St. Alphonsus parish, which is located on the West side of San Antonio. Jacob's great grandma Eva Rivera Ocampo lived just one block from the church, and she attended school there at age 7. Eva celebrated her First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and then Marriage to Socorro Ocampo over 60 years ago at St. Alphonsus. Jacob's great uncle Art was also baptised at this church. Until about 5 years ago uncle Art was the parish priest for several years, and during his time with the church he lead fund-raising efforts to restore the church. He even donated his time to bake cookies every week.

Jacob's uncle Armando and aunt Anna drove up from Reynosa, Mexico. They brought Jacob's cousin Antonio and Jacob's grandparents. Jacob in his elegant baptism outfit, hand delivered from Mexico by his godparents:

Jacob Manuel Mejia was accompanied in baptism by his one-month old 3rd cousin, Christopher Jacob Rivera.

Jacob and his primo Antonio were exhausted after a long day, and they both fell asleep at 5 p.m. Antonio was out for the night, but Jacob woke for one more meal.

Gracias a mis padrinos por todo!

Jacob's first fever

Our poor baby had his first fever this past week. We noticed on Wednesday evening and did what we could to make him comfortable. We saw the pediatrician on Thursday morning and confirmed it wasn't the flu. The Dr. thought it might have been a virus, but after 24 hours Jacob's temperature was back to the normal range. He was starting to feel better by Saturday and was able to celebrate his cousin Jonas' 12th birthday.

By Sunday, Jacob was almost 100%. He was eating more and smiling a lot. It was not like him to not be smiling all the time, so now we definitely know he's feeling better!

Jacob is 17 lbs!

We took Jacob to the Dr. today because it's been 3 weeks of congestion for our little one. Poor guy has trouble breathing at night. But that's not stopping him from eating! He weighs over 17 lbs. The Dr. was pleased and said that Jacob has plenty of 'reserves' in case he gets sick and doesn't eat for a week. He has no worries that by 1 year old Jacob will weigh at least the average weight of 22 lbs! Jacob is wearing 9 month clothes and I honestly don't know how much longer they are going to fit because he's growing so fast. He's at least 24.5" long.
Smiling with Aunt Mary and Grandma Elsa.
Full after a meal.
Happy in his swing.
Jacob makes lots of sounds and smiles a lot. He loves when daddy sings to him, especially "Las Mananitas" (birthday song in Spanish), and he tries to join in the singing.
Laughing and singing with daddy.
