Babymoon in Puerto Vallarta

Manuel and I are back from a week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Today I learned the description for a couple's last vacation before the birth of the first child is a 'babymoon'. Well, we definitely enjoyed ours - lots of sleeping, eating, swimming, sunbathing, relaxing, and of course some sight-seeing along the way.

We celebrated our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta 2.5 years ago , so it was nice to go back to visit this 'small town' again - although I was a bit more limited this visit in the activities I could participate, we still found lots to see and do!

Over the past few weeks, the baby continues to move a lot more. Here's my the most recent belly growth progression over the past weeks: 22, 23, and then 24 for both myself and Manuel.

He kicked me!

Last night when we laid down for bed, I felt the baby kicking again. So, I told Manuel to listen for the baby. He put his left ear on my tummy and a few seconds later he felt a kick to his cheek! Now we're both feeling the baby! I'm 21 weeks and the movement has been more frequent over the past week, not only at night when I lay down but also occasionally during the day.

This past weekend, I turned 33 years old! Elsa made a great chicken fajita dinner for the family to celebrate Sonia and my birthdays. And Socorro made three cakes. I of course felt obligated to eat a piece of each one, so needless to say I was stuffed after my birthday feast.

We're packing up for our week vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We leave on Friday morning. It will be our last vacation as just a couple for a LONG time. We're looking forward to relaxing together and of course to future vacations with our baby boy.

19 Weeks

Baby Mejia and I are 19 weeks, and there's no hiding my stomach! We got another great ultrasound picture of the baby - he's pretty flexible and his legs look really long to me. There's not as much extra surrounding space as there was at 11 weeks, but during the ultrasound we observed that he manages to move around quite a bit! I'm not feeling it yet, but it should be anytime now...

Manuel at 17 weeks is keeping slender, even as he joins in my evening snacking.

It's a boy! Es un nino!

Today Manuel and I had a doctor appointment and sonogram. We saw fingers, toes, and all other parts of the anatomy, and we're pretty darn sure it's a boy! We are very happy to know our baby's gender and now we can start thinking of names. We had a few boy names in mind, but at lunch we eliminated them from the list so now we're starting over. Our baby's weight is normal at about 10 ounces and he has a heartbeat of 144 bpm. I'm 18 weeks along, so that's almost half way. I'm not feeling the baby's movement yet, but it looks like the baby is taking a lot more room in my belly so I expect to feel something sometime soon!

15 Weeks

I'm glad to report that I do have more energy this month, but I still run out of steam pretty early and I try to nap whenever possible! We went out on Friday night for a delicious spicy Thai meal and then we heard some Cuban music. I did take an hour nap before we left, but I lasted till almost 11 p.m. I've been wearing the maternity pants since I hit week 13. My old pants were no longer comfortable, so I could wait no longer. You can definitely notice some belly protrusion now! Photos from 14 and then 15 weeks:

Para nuestra familia y amigos en México,
Nos da mucho gusto que están visitando nuestra pagina para ver las noticias y fotos del bebe. Voy a tratar de escribir mas en seguida. Apenas estoy sintiendo mejor con mas energía, pero después de trabajar toda la semana me canso y me da flojera. Manuel tomo estos fotos cuando tuve catorce y quince semanas. Desde semana trece estoy utilizando los pantalones especiales de embaraza!

Con Amor, Michelle

11 weeks

Manuel and I visited our new doctor yesterday and we had our first ultra sound. I'm a little over 11 weeks, and it's still hard to believe that I'm that far along. I was surprised to see how well developed the baby is! We saw fingers, toes, kicking legs, etc.

Length (head to bottom): 4 1/2"
Heartbeat: 167 BPM, which is normal for a baby
Estimated due date: 7/23/09

Almost the New Year

We've had a great 2008 and we're looking forward to this next year, when we hope to introduce a baby into this world. We had lots of fun with family celebrating a pre-birthday celebration for Manuel's birthday before Christmas (his birthday is 12/27) with a tex-mex dinner and mariachis. Although our special surprize guest, my brother Armando, didn't show up in time to celebrate from Illinois due to bad weather.
We got together for caldo de res (beef soup with vegetables) the next day at my house. Mando told us about his adventures since joining the Navy in August and he showed us his dog tags.

We've had a nice visit with Manuel's parents this past month, and they'll be with us for New Years before heading back to Victoria, Mexico. I think my nausea is calming down, so I'm very happy about that, although I'm constantly hungry and my lower back has been bothering me. Other than carrying over some of these discomforts into next year, we're looking forward to 2009!
