Jacob's 10th week - 14 lbs

Jacob weighs almost 14 lbs. He gained less than a pound this week, but last week's weight was measured just after a 3.5 oz meal so he gained about the average of 7 oz for the week. He has continued to sleep 'though the night' averaging at least 7 hours after his final evening meal, although he continues to struggle with falling asleep initially and he wakes with wet diapers and a bit of fussiness through the night. He smiles very frequently and makes lots of sounds, especially after a meal when he's full and happy (estomago lleno corazon contento).
Jacob at 10 weeks ate 4.8 oz to push his weight over 14 lbs (9/10/09).

Jacob enjoyed a visit to his Great Grandma Eva's house, and he also got to see Grandma Elsa and Great Uncle Joe.

Jacob's Grandpa Ruben and Aunt Julia came into town and stopped in for a visit.

Jacob has long eyelashes like mommy.

At bath time we have to be sure to get into all those wrinkles!

Jacob is 2 months!

Our baby is already two months old! He's 9 weeks and growing so fast - he's slightly above average with a weight of 13 lbs 12 oz, but he has an average length of 23". Jacob had his shots and he was very well behaved - he yelled just a little bit (mostly before the needle poke) and then he fell asleep within 10 minutes because he'd been awake for more than 2 hours before hand. The doctor said Jacob should be sleeping through the night based on his age and weight, so we made a few minor adjustments to the nighttime routine (i.e. don't pick him up to change a diaper - change it where he sleeps) and he lasted 8 hours! That's a big change from the initial 1.5 hours, which progressed to 3 hours, then 4 hours, and now 8 hours (with a few rounds of delivering the pacifier) between meals!

Jacob loves playing in his ocean gym, and he's getting much better at hitting the hanging toys repeatedly. He is starting to grab things, but mostly uses his fists to hit his target. He loves to stare into the eyes of the octopus, probably because they are black & white and draw his attention.

We've taken him on several walks in the neighborhood. He doesn't last very long awake, but he does notice if you stop moving.
Jacob loves his baths as long as they are after a meal. We noticed he has a little 'milk belly' and some boobies last Sunday!

Well, I'll be going back to work in a few weeks so we're starting the preparations for day care. They will take great care of him at the Valero Day Care, but I'll miss seeing him all day. At the same time, it will be nice for me to get back into my own routine and back into the swing of things at USAA : )

Jacob's 8th Week - 12 lbs 13 oz

Jacob has more than doubled his body weight in his first two months! He's about 22" long. He's "thriving" according to the lactation consultant I spoke to a few weeks ago. He's starting to use his hands to grab and hit things such as Manuel's chin and hanging toys in his play gym. He is smiling more frequently after hearing familiar voices, and I think I see dimples! He gave me some kisses the other day, but I must admit he was hungry and looking for milk - it was still sweet : )
Jacob 8 weeks (8/28/09).

Last weekend Jacob had his first road trip to Katy (outside Houston). We added an extra hour of stopping for feeding and diaper changing to the three hour drive, but the car ride went well overall. Jacob met Aunt Julia, cousins Sophia & Maya, and Chris & Carmen, for the first time.
With Uncle Moses, Aunt Gaby, and cousins Maya & Sophia.
With Aunt Julia and Aunt Gaby. I think he's searching for food : )
With Carmen & Chris (3 month countdown to their wedding!)
Jacob shed his first tears on the drive home from Katy.

Jacob had fun with Grandma Maria, but she had to fly back to Michigan on Wednesday. Hopefully the master plan will work out and grandma Maria and grandpa Ruben will move down to San Antonio by next year.
Grandma Maria and daddy giving Jacob a bath.

Thursday afternoon we visited his great grandma Eva, and he said his first 'accuu' about 6 times. His grandma Maria tried for 1.5 weeks to get him to talk, but it didn't work. This time he was full after a meal and in a great mood, plus I think grandma Eva has the magic touch with babies!

Jacob slept 5.5 hours on Thursday, a new record! The typical max has been 3 hours after his midnight feeding, but we put on a bigger and more absorbent diaper and I think it helped. He had also fought naps during the day, so he was extra tired that night.

Jacob's 7th week - 11 lbs 14 oz

Another week another pound...again! This boy can eat. Jacob weighs 11 lbs 14 oz, and clothing size 0-3 months is fitting just right.
Jacob 7 weeks (8/20/09).
Grandma Maria came into town from Michigan for a visit.

Grandma Maria and daddy bathed Jacob, then he fell asleep.

Jacob loves to be held during the day, but he also does well in the car seat and stroller (as long as there's motion) so I can run errands. We're working on getting him to go to bed after the 10 p.m. feeding, but he sometimes fights it. He's in bed at the latest by 1 a.m. and he sleeps pretty well through the late morning, waking about every 3 hours to eat.

Jacob's 6th week - 10 lbs 13 oz

Another week, another pound! Jacob is growing so fast!! Yesterday he turned 6 weeks and he weighed in at 10 lbs 13 oz. He ate almost 3 oz at a feeding, which isn't enough to last him two hours. We need to work on larger volume per feeding - he starts out vigorously but frequently falls asleep after 10 or 15 minutes and I need to burp him, change him, and/or tickle his feet to keep him moving along.
Jacob 6 weeks (8/13/09).
Manuel and I celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary this week. We've been together for 6 years! We went out for dinner alone thanks to Jacob's babysitters, Grandma Elsa, Aunt Socorro & cousin Reyna.
Thanks to my husband for the lovely roses and New England football jersey - now we can both wear our jerseys and watch football games when the season starts!
Jacob enjoying tummy time : )
Manuel is very patient and holds Jacob in the evening while he naps. Jacob sleeps okay alone at night, but during the afternoon and evening he wants to be held!

One month portrait

We took Jacob to his first studio photo shoot this past Wednesday. He was napping after a feeding and was not very happy to be woken up, but the photographer managed to take some great photos!

Jacob's 5th week - 9 lbs 11 oz

We've officially put away the newborn-sized clothing and graduated to diaper size 1. After letting Jacob eat whenever he wanted (although some of the time he was just suckling and not sucking/eating), he's gained another pound!
Jacob at 5 weeks weighs 9 lbs 11 oz, but he ate 4.5 oz the other day(8/6/09).
We talked to the pediatrician and it's time to put him on a schedule to eat every 2.5 to 3 hours to be sure he's actively eating and so there's time for my breast milk to replenish. I can't continue feeding every 1.5 hours! We went to the doctor because Jacob's lips were looking odd with white in the inner portion that became very dry and cracked this past weekend. Apparently he was eating and sucking too much, which resulted in a blister on his upper lip! We did end up introducing the pacifier to try to help him relax and sleep without wanting to suck on my breasts constantly, but he doesn't like it too much because no milk comes out and he only occasionally will accept the pacifier. His afternoon/evening fussiness has increased, but he is sleeping 3 hour stretches at night so we're grateful for that!
Lunch-time nap with daddy.

Playtime with mommy after a morning feeding on the back porch.

Hanging out with his aunt Socorro and cousin Reyna, who spent some time with us this week.

Enjoying a bath - some smiling and squirming.
Resting peacefully on his swing.
