Jacob's 6th month

It's hard to believe that Jacob's 6th month is already over. In January, he became so much more active, grabbing everything and jumping like crazy in his stationary bouncer.

He also becomes very animated when playing in his gym: making noises (squealing, grunting, and yelling); grabbing and yanking the hanging toys; and even spinning himself around on his back with his legs. He brings his legs up to a 90 degree angle and then brings them down on his right side, slowly making his way all the way around in a circle on his back.

A few weeks ago, one of the day care ladies found Jacob facing opposite of what she remembered leaving him, and later she realized that he spun himself around 180 degrees. Jacob also started making loud noises while playing at day care, at first concerning the ladies because he's usually quiet and reserved. They finally realized Jacob wasn't upset and he was just enjoying playing. I guess he finally decided to let loose. Jacob has also begun to shown a bit of a temper at day care when the other babies wake him from his nap - he doesn't like it one bit! Last week Jacob started pulling off his socks at day care and then putting them in his mouth, so the ladies sometimes take off Jacob's socks completely because he keeps trying to pull them off.

Jacob loves his great grandma Eva. She is almost 81 years old.

We had a fun time at Jacob's Aunt Sonia and Uncle Jason's house in early January. Uncle Joe blessed the house and we broke Manuel's birthday pinata.

Jacob has two cowlicks, or remolinos. Mexicans say this means he will be corajudo, which is translated as angry, passionate, and easily irritated.

Jacob is eating much more solid food. He eats almost everything, but he doesn't like apples too much. He'll still eat them, but he starts making faces, spit noises, and sticks out his tongue. I think he learned how to make the spitting sound from daddy, who likes to blow into his stomach.

Michelle is still breastfeeding Jacob his first and last meals of the day, but she's no longer pumping, so she has a little bit more free time during the day. Mommy finally made it over to the day care for a lunch visit.

Jacob had a bad cough in early January and we took him to his pediatrician. He had a respiratory virus, RSV. It took a few weeks, but Jacob got over the virus. We gave him a nebulizer treatment for a several days to help with his wheezing, and there's a chance he could have asthma in the future. So we'll be on the look out. Most people in San Antonio have allergies, and we're pretty sure Jacob is allergic to Mountain Cedar. There's seems to be a strong correlation between nasal congestion and exposure to outdoor air during high levels allergens. Manuel is allergic to Mt. Cedar and Oak, and unfortunately we have a big Oak tree in the back yard.

Jacob's grandma, Maria, has spent the past month living with us. She started a new job at the VA Hospital lab, and she is starting to get settled in San Antonio. Next to move down will be her hubby, Ruben, hopefully this year.

When Jacob naps in his crib at home or day care, he likes to stick his foot outside the crib rail.

Our newlywed friends Chris and Carmen drove down from Houston for a visit. Grandma Maria babysat for a few hours with the help of Jacob's Aunt Sonia and cousin Reyna, so we headed out for dinner and a few drinks.
